FROM THE EAST
My Brothers, Holiday Greetings and special thanks to all our officers and members who made the Table Lodge an event that will be long remembered. An esteemed R.'.W commented that he has never seen the Stewards work so hard, and quickly added, "But, then, that's the way it should be." I tip my top hat to all who made it a success. Also, my special thanks to the DDGM R.'.W.'.Larry N. Barnard, and all the R.'.Ws, V.'.Ws, Worshipfuls, and special guests from the Prince Hall and Humanitas Lodges who came to give us their support. As the New Year begins, some of us have made resolutions as to the things we wish to accomplish during the coming year (losing weight, watching less TV, going to bed earlier, becoming a better person, etc.). Some of us will try to accomplish these changes on our own, without involving others in our hopes and dreams to accomplish our goals, while others of us will tell the world of our good intentions. As Freemasons, we are given various tools in each of our degrees to help us in our personal goal of becoming a better human being. In the First Degree we are presented with certain working tools to aid us in this endeavor. Should we go no further in our quest for more Light - these tools alone enable us to radically change our lives for the better. In the Second Degree even more information is contained in the "labors to be performed, the dangers encountered, and the preparations that must be made." Yet, even more tools and instruction are available to us to facilitate further progress in our spiritual undertakings. In the Third Degree we are charged to "make the most and best of yourself." In this degree all the tools of Freemasonry are at our disposal. We need only apply the "right tool" for the "right job." We need only look in our Masonic tool box. Perhaps our tools are in good working order or perhaps they have gotten a "bit rusty" from lack of use. Perhaps this is a good year to once again examine the tools that were given to us after we took our obligations, and put them again in good working order. Perhaps this is also a good year to examine the progress each and every one of us is making on our own spiritual edifice, the one that's not made with the hands. To paraphrase the Capital One commercial: "What's in your toolbox? May the New Year bring with it health, happiness, and great blessings both to you and those you love. |
FROM THE SECRETARY'S DESK I hope all brothers and their families had a glorious holiday and, despite the poor economy, were generous to the kids and charities. On a more mundane note: We urge those of you who overlooked your 2009 Dues Invoice, because of the pressures of the season, to bring your $80 dues check (plus $20 contribution, if possible) to our next Lodge meeting or mail your check to me at my home address on the front page. (Make checks payable to: HST 1066.) See me to purchase tickets for the Sunday, March 8, Family Breakfast at Leonard's of Great Neck, $25 per person. And, I have recently received tickets for the Monday, March 23, Mason-of-the-Year Dinner, at $40 per. Educational Assistance Program Applications of the GLNY are now available for any eligible child/grandchild of a Master Mason or deceased Master Mason. Widows of deceased brothers are also eligible to apply. See me for a black application. The completed application must be mailed to the selection committee and postmarked no later than April 1. One of the basic eligibility requirements is that the applicant must demonstrate a financial need. Rules must be carefully followed. I also have the 2009 Camp Turk Applications that must be completed and returned by June 1. It is never too early to apply! With fraternal affection, Bro. Ted H. Jacobsen thjnycusa@aol.com |
